Biking to Work in the Bronx

I think Biking to work is a big bummer and probably a quick way to get wet in the rain and commit suicide in various ways.  However, the greenies dig it.

Pedal to the Grindstone: Biking to Work

Bike to Work Day, held in New York on May 16th (last Friday), is a celebration of the bike being an environmental and wallet-friendly option for commuting from your home to your work place.  In honor of this event we had a Q&A session with Laura Solis from Bike New York about traveling via bicycle. Here’s what she said!

If I live, let’s say 5 miles from my job, how long would it take me to get there?
That depends on a few factors. I used to live 5 miles away from my last job. The commute using public transportation would involve either 2 buses and the train or 3 buses and it’d take me just over an hour to get there. When I started riding my bike, it took me roughly 30 minutes on a day when I was being mindful not to break into a sweat. There was this one time it took me only 19 minutes, but I never did quite repeat that great timing.

Do you remember the first time you biked to work?
The first day I tried it out I actually did it on my day off so that there wasn’t any pressure to get there “on time”. I went on a Sunday morning when traffic would be presumably lightest and I timed myself. I don’t remember what my time was, but I remember giving myself and hour and a half and I had planned 3 rest-stops, including a coffee shop along the way. Whenever I think back to that day, I remember how over prepared I was, how much I had overestimated what 5 miles really felt like, and how I had underestimated myself tremendously.  In the end, I only stopped once, and it was to pat myself on the back and tag a swig of water.

Clearly, biking is a great workout for your legs, but does it tone the jiggle anywhere else?
Biking is a tremendous workout, you will have buns of steel in no time and your abs/core will love you forevermore.

Are there any other benefits to biking besides the workout?
I will say that the money I save on transportation I spend on food to keep me fueled. And the saying “you are what you eat”, couldn’t be more true than when you are riding a bike. If I eat a bacon cheddar burger with fries and a shake before a bike ride, I ride like I just ate a bacon cheddar burger with fries and a shake. The bigger the variety of colors on my plate (not including condiments!) and range of food groups, the more vibrant I feel on my bike.

Ok, this may be a little personal but what about the, well, smell? Any tips?
Hygiene in general is a really big deal to me, whether or not I’m on my bike. With that said, I quickly learned how to ride so that I didn’t break into a sweat, but I also learned what was the best way to get rid of the smell of NYC streets that will latch on to your body if you’re riding through traffic. I stocked up on sun dresses when I started riding a bike because there is NOTHING, like riding a bike in a skirt or a dress. The sheer ventilation that you get in all the necessary places will have you smiling up and down the road. I am more concerned with dirt, which is attracted to you if you are wearing lotion, sunscreen in particular. To remove the grime, which usually only accumulates on a ride greater than 5 miles, I use Action Wipes. Action Wipes are amazing! They remove any evidence of your having been active in a matter of minutes, and it does so using all natural ingredients, without drying your skin while leaving you feeling clean and fresh. They also don’t leave any lint behind, which baby wipes often do, and they’re the perfect texture for sloughing off the grease that will one day end up on your leg.

What are the safest routes in the Bronx? Is there somewhere I can find this information?
The Bronx has a great number of greenways (paths surrounded by greenery) as a result of being the greenest borough! Many folks feel really safe along the greenways because the interaction with traffic is very limited. We’ve got the Bronx River Greenway, Mosholu Parkway Greenway, the Hutchinson River Greenway, and the Pelham Parkway Greenway.  Have you checked out the 2014 NYC Bike Map?!!! The promising green dotted lines indicate forthcoming “potential” bike lanes, including an extension of the existing Hudson River Greenway, which currently ends in Inwood Hill Park in Manhattan, but looks to make its way up to Riverdale. There are also lots of green dots along the Bronx Harlem River Greenway as well! In addition to the Bike Map, ridethecity (website and app), maps out direct, safe and safer routes, respectively. They are still one of my most used #bikenyc resources.

Bike lanes are great, but being safe has a lot to do with feeling safe and feeling safe often comes with knowledge which leads to confidence. You can get this sort of knowledge, and subsequent confidence, by attending free Bike New York Street Skills Class and Street Skills Ride. Honestly, it’s where I picked up most of my tips and tricks, or rather advice and instruction. As much as I love the greenways, and hope for more bike lanes in the Bronx, the existing ones are not currently conducive to an efficient commute for me, so you’ll most often see me on the road, safely alongside the cars, without a bike lane.

If I wanted to take a class to learn more about biking in NYC or find a group to ride with, how could I do that?
Visit www.bikenewyork.org/education to learn more about biking safely and confidently in NYC for free. We have free classes throughout the five boroughs. Our Community Bike Education Center in the Bronx is located in the southwest playground of Van Cortlandt Park.

If you want to ride with a group, I’d recommend our very own Bike Path Cruise Rides. You can also check out the list of bike clubs on our website. A few of my favorites include Social Cycling NYCNYC Biketrain and InTandem. They are all filled with good people who are very welcoming to new and experienced cyclists.

Josh Kaufman does Stevie Wonder

Watching the show, Josh Kaufman, he is doing an imitation of Stevie Wonder.  He really sounds like Stevie Wonder.  But that is not original, hey Harlem and Bronx, don't you know this is a big fake.  #thevoice is a bigger fake than American Idol, where at least they pretend to have an original interpretation.  I guess it is American Ventriloquist. Oh well, that is the news from Rockefeller Plaza, New York, NYC, NY.

Bronx Week opening Party at Bronx Brewery, Bronx Museum

OK, Bronx NY News sent a reporter to the opening of Bronx Week yesterday. It was wild, and it featured Bronx boro pres Ruben Diaz, and honorees David Zayas from the Dexter HBO show, and Swizz Beats, the rapper and producer married to Alicia Keyes.  That guy has 4 kids from 4 different women, so he really likes to reproduce.

Also, the picture of the chair is from the opening at the Bronx Museum of their Beyond the Supersquare exhibit.

Toyota Popularity Contest

They say that Toyota Camry has won the popularity contest.  At $189 a month for a lease, that is not bad.  On the other hand, I'm not sure if my credit can handle it.  Better in NYC to take public transportation.

Then the 2-year old from Christie Street lower east side fell out of the 3rd floor window, but only suffered bumps and bruises.

And the weather is beautiful.  Dont watch Ellen Generes, tooo bad at 4 pm in NYC on Channel 4.

Bullets Over Broadway

Saw the commercial about the New York Broadway show, Bullets Over Broadway.  It shows for sure a lot of singing and dancing.  I like that commercial with the dancers on their backs, and the girls showing off their legs.  Sexy for sure, but is it rational??? Who knows?  Harlem, you can make the journey downtown.

LaRouche in Washington Times

LaRouche in the Washington Times says, save the humans. This whole idea of turning food into gasohol is insane. Starving to death is not the way to help the United States, by any means. Everything that Obama is insisting on, as LaRouche says, must be canceled tomorrow morning. We need the Glass-Stegall, we need the space program. There is a way Bronx and Harlem dudes to continue the human race and expand into near outer space. Go back to Ronald Reagan's Space Defense Initiative, into a Space Defense of Earth (SDE).

Susan Rice a Roni

Susan Rice a Roni;
The genocidal treat;
 Susan Rice a Roni;
 The BS can't be beat;
(Rice a Roni advertising jingle)

"The failure of Congress to prosecute the crimes of the Obama Administration in relation to the Benghazi murders of American personnel, in effect, means those Congressmen are abetting treason against the United States," said Lyndon LaRouche in a statement Sunday. "Because the policy which the British puppet Obama Administration carried out, and which led to those deaths, if continued, will lead us straight to World War III." In fact, Congress, and especially the Democrats, are continuing to dither. Future hearings have been scheduled by the Senate Intelligence Committee, and both Susan Rice and Hillary Clinton are expected to testify, said Sen. Saxby Chambless on Fox News Sunday yesterday. But there are no plans for escalating the timetable. The Independent investigation commissioned by the State Department, headed by senior diplomat Thomas Pickering, is not expected to release its report until mid-December. After the testimony, behind closed doors, by former CIA head David Petraeus last week, attention has focussed heavily on why the White House, and especially UN Ambassador Susan Rice, continued to publicly lie about the nature of the Sept. 11 attack, saying it was an outgrowth of a demonstration. Gen. Petraeus, according to all reports of those listening, said the CIA always knew it was a terrorist attack, and said so in its "talking points." However, at some point, those "talking points" were edited, and the references to al-Qaeda as the source of the attack were removed, and that was the version which Rice, and later the President, went with. The "why" is not mysterious; indeed, Rice's fulsome discussion in her Sept. 16 TV appearances about how Obama had "dismantled" al-Qaeda, provides motivation enough. What Congress is still looking at is the "who." Sen. Chambless put it this way: "It was kind of interesting, Chris. At the hearing we had on Thursday and Friday, we had every leader of the intelligence community there, including folks from the State Department, the FBI, everybody there was asked, do you know who made these changes? And nobody knew. The only entity that reviewed the talking points that was not there was the White House.... What I do know is that every member of the intelligence community says that references to al Qaeda were removed by somebody, and they don't know who." The other thing we know is that this inquiry will not be swept under the rug. Not only are four Americans dead as a result of the de facto alliance of the British-controlled Obama Administration with al-Qaeda in toppling Qaddafi, but that same alliance, called 9/11 Two, is continuing, and leading us to World War III in Syria and beyond. No Obama, He is Genocide

Vote against Obama, he is genocide, he is death. people in New York and New Jersey who were the most vulnerable to the effects of Super Storm Sandy also happen to be the same populations targeted for elimination under the brutal fascist austerity plans of President Barack Obama and his minions, including New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and New York's greenie billionaire Mayor Michael Bloomberg — the poor and the elderly. A number of the high-rise apartment buildings in both places that lost power were either low-income housing projects or housing for the elderly. When they lost power, elevators, air conditioning systems, lighting, refrigerators, and other appliances necessary for life in these structures all stopped functioning. Acquiring food and water suddenly became impossible. As of mid-day, today, five apartment buildings for senior citizens in Paterson, N.J., were still without power, reported the Bergen Record. As of Friday, there were nine high-rise buildings in Fort Lee without power and several more in Hackensack and Cliffside Park. Some have had emergency generators keeping the elevators operating, but in Edgewater, people have been living in buildings without any power at all. In one building in Fort Lee, many of the elderly residents have been congregating in the first floor lobby, but some are too frail to leave their apartments and need help. In New York City, a dozen people over the age of 65 died in the storm. According to an accounting by the Associated Press, they included a 90-year-old woman who died in her apartment on Coney Island; a 75-year-old woman in Manhattan's East Village who died after her oxygen supply was cut off when the power failed; an 82-year-old man killed by the rising water in Staten Island; an elderly couple who apparently drowned beside their car in a parking lot also on Staten Island, and there were others, too weary or frail to heed evacuation orders before the storm. Friday, Rep. Gregory Meeks (D-N.Y.), whose district is made up of a large part of Queens, told CNN's Erin Burnett that "No one on the peninsula from east to west has power." Fifty percent of Meeks' constituents live below the poverty line and most of them don't believe that they're getting the help they need (as on Staten Island). And, as Lyndon LaRouche pointed out Saturday, there are no plans among any of the current political leadership to take the necessary measures to mitigate the effects of such storms in the future. Bloomberg made that clear on Nov. 1, when he rejected calls for the construction of storm barriers for New York like the one that successfully protected Providence, R.I., from Sandy, last week. Sandy Hurricane on the Elections

Could this Sandy hurricane shift the election towards Romney?  Hey Bronx dudes, I think it can, and maybe she will save our butts.

Is the oncoming Sandy storm, a storm for Mitt Romney? This weather pattern could knock out power in large regions from Virginia and Pennsylvania, into Ohio. It could get people sour against Obama, as our aging infrastructure rots and collapses in a major storm. Sandy could actually interfere with voting some some areas, going from Pennsylvania and even into Eastern Ohio, Cleveland area, etc.

This may somehow shift the vote towards Romney. Maybe this is a divine sign to save the United States from the otherwise Obama election and subsequent path to thermonuclear confrontation, and launch of thermonuclear war.

Do You want to Survive, Break Banks

If you want to survive, Bronx and Harlem dudes, you have to break up the big banks now. Obama is trash, so throw him out. Reich has some good ideas here, though he sees the world with Democratic colored glasses. On Oct. 18, Robert Reich called on Obama to break up the nation's biggest banks and to resurrect Glass- Steagall. The op ed argues that if the President took such action it would be good policy and would smoke out Mitt Romney. Earlier this year, in July, immediately after Sandy Weill had recanted his opposition to Glass-Steagall, Reich had written an op ed in the Huffington Post entitled: "The Man Who Invented 'Too Big to Fail' Banks Finally Recants. Will Obama or Romney Follow?" in which he concluded in a manner not based on the party system: "What's the betting that one of the presidential candidates will take up Weill's proposal?"

Three months later Reich ostensibly launches into an attack on Romney as Wall Street's candidate, knowing full well that it has been Obama who has opposed Glass-Steagall, implemented the bailout of Wall Street, and pushed the Dodd-Frank Act, which maintains the too big to fail policy. He does so even though in the first debate, Romney called for repealing Dodd-Frank and eliminating the policy of too big to fail. Reich writes: "The President should counter Romney's extraordinary solicitude toward the Street with a proposal to cap the size of the nation's biggest banks so that no bank is ever again too big to fail. And to resurrect the Glass-Steagall Act, which once separated commercial from investment banking. In the 1980s the ten biggest banks had less than 30 percent of bank depositary assets.

Now they have 54 percent. And the four biggest now dominate the Street almost completely. Because lenders and investors know they're too big to fail, the four biggest banks have a competitive advantage over smaller rivals that pose larger financial risks. That means they'll only get bigger. Breaking up the biggest banks and capping the size of all banks is hardly a radical suggestion these days. The Dallas Federal Reserve Board, which has never been accused of excessive liberalism, has called for it. So has Sanford Weill, the creator of Citigroup, one of the biggest of the big. So has Daniel Tarullo, the Federal Reserve governor charged with bank regulation. So have conservative commentators such as George Will.... Calling for a breakup of the biggest banks and a resurrection of Glass-Steagall would smoke out Mitt Romney — revealing clearly and decisively he's not on the side of most Americans." Reich is correct that Romney, like Obama, has not endorsed Glass-Steagall. It is also true that on economic policy he is presently in large part captive to Republican Party ideology. However, the fact that Sandy Weill and a number of conservatives have endorsed Glass-Steagall points to the potential of freeing Romney from the Republican Party ideologues who oppose it. Is it possible that Reich, in making this proposal, is actually trying to smoke out not just Romney but also Obama, who for the last four years, with help from Geithner and Holder, among others, has in fact defended and bailed out Wall Street at the behest of the Queen of England to the detriment of the American people?

Genocide people obamanation

Obama is the obamanation.  Genocide baby from Libya to the killer drones to nuclear war.  Try some of that on your real estate deals!

or the second time in about a week, a study has been issued examining the terrible human costs of the drone wars being carried out and expanded under President Obama. Entitled "The Civilian Impact of Drones: Unexamined Costs, Unanswered Questions," the new report was issued on Oct. 1 by the Columbia Law School and the Center for Civilians in Conflict, and it constitutes another damning indictment of the policy using covert drone strikes to kill targets in Pakistan, Yemen, and Somalia, much of which is personally overseen and approved by Barack Obama.
A major theme of the study is to debunk the notion of "precision" in drone strikes. It quotes Obama, for example, as describing drone strikes as "precise, precision strikes against Al Qaeda and their affiliates." There is no "precision" in either targetting before strikes, or in assessing casualities and damage after the fact, the study documents.
The Columbia study notes the difficulty in determining civilian casualties caused by drone strikes, but notes that the CIA and JSOC (the military's Joint Special Operations Command) have the same problem: the lack of active intelligence in areas where the U.S. does not have boots on the ground. In the Pakistan tribal areas, Yemen, and Somalia — the U.S. has little if any human intelligence, little signals intelligence (because of the low-technology environment), and a lot of drone video surveillance. But the latter is of limited value because of the inability to distinguish individuals on the ground, and the "soda straw" effect — a very narrow view, missing the wider picture. (For example, one drone operator targetted a truck thought to be full of "insurgents;" after the missile was fired, two young boys riding bicycles unexpectly appeared on the screen, and the drone operator could do nothing as he watched the missile kill the two boys as well as the "insurgents" on the truck.)
The Columbia report, in addition to detailing the harm to civilians caused by drone strikes, delves deeper into the legal implications of Obama's policy, and its flagrant violations of the laws of war and interational humanitarian law. It also does a more thorough analysis of the roles of the CIA and JSOC, and the different legal authorities under which they operate, but pointing out that they have become virtually indistinguishable in practice. As a number of observers have pointed out, JSOC, sometimes called "the President's army," has a particular fascination for Obama, and it is his favorite killing instrument.
The super-secret JSOC operates without any significant public scrutiny and it also evades Congressional oversight, the Columbia report notes (which may be why Obama loves it so much). JSOC, as Gen. Barry McCaffrey noted, is "a parallel universe." It operates in almost total secrecy, outside of the conventional military command structure and rules of engagement. And it maneuvers in the cracks, in-between Congressional oversight of either military operations, or intelligence operations. Many if not most of the drone strikes with high civilian casualties, often attributed to CIA, are actually carried out by JSOC.
There are many indications that drone strikes are actually increasing overall violence and contributing to anti-American sentiment. A number of studies have found that the effect of the drone strikes has been a radicalization of the population and increased recruiting by Al-Qaeda and related groups. A lawyer in Yemen said the following in a May tweet: "Dear Obama, when a US drone kills a child in Yemen, the father will go to war with you, guaranteed. Nothing to do with al-Qaeda."

Kerry Kover for Kovert War

It's the new KKK, the Kerry kover for Kovert war.  That Sen .  Kerry has gone bad.

Sen. John Kerry, who facilitated Obama’s illegal and unconstitutional war on Libya, is now greasing the way for a cover-up of the Benghazi attacks. At a Senate Foreign Relations Committee meeting on Wednesday, Kerry killed the bill introduced by Sen. Bob Corker (R-TN) and Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC), which would have required the State Department to report to Congress on last week’s attacks in Libya, Egypt, and Yemen within 30 days.
Instead, as Josh Rogin reports in The Cable blog, Kerry said the Corker-DeMint bill was not needed, because the State Department is setting up a panel (supposedly “independent and bipartisan”) to investigate the Benghazi attack. Kerry said Wednesday that Deputy Secretary of State Tom Nides had told him the State Department had already begun setting up the panel, which, Kerry said, would be independently appointed and accountable to Congress. However, this panel, known as an Accountability Review Board, is only required to be convened within 60 days of the attack, and then after conducting its examination, it will report its findings to Congress — which clearly Obama and Kerry hope will be long after the November elections.
Sen. DeMint’s reaction was this: “The attacks on American embassies and diplomats are outrageous. The Administration owes the American people detailed answers on how this happened and how it can be prevented in the future. It now appears these violent acts may have been coordinated terrorist attacks against America around the anniversary of 9/11. There may have even been warnings beforehand. Americans need to know if we were properly prepared and what steps must be taken to protect our diplomats in these dangerous environments.”
The House Oversight Committee sent a letter today asking for results of this probe by October 4th.
FURTHER: According to late news reports, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has appointed veteran diplomat and former Ambassador Thomas Pickering to head the Accoutability Review Board. The highly-respected Pickering is one of the most senior U.S. foreign service officers, and was just in the news for the Iran Project report warning of the heavy costs of a military attack on Iran. Pickering’s appointment suggests that there is a fierce battle going on within the Adminstration and the State Department, over Obama’s complicity in, and cover-up for, the murder of Ambassador Stevens.

Netanyahu the Yahoo Freaks Out

Netanyahu the yahoo freaks out, because people in Israel and the USJOC Us Joint Chiefs of Staff, are jamming up his war with Iran plan.

One day after the Israeli newspaper Yediot Ahronoth published the story that the U.S. will not "have Israel's back" in a strike against Iran, Prime Minister Netanyahu had a fit against his own Security Cabinet and cancelled the council's meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 5, even as the officials were meeting about Iran.
In a wild rant, Bibi said that he was dismissing the NSC because of "leaks" to the media that violated the "trust" of the security cabinet. He railed that he has "a responsibility" to the citizens and the "security of the state," to protect secrets; therefore, "I am breaking up this meeting."
The real sin of the "leak" was that Ynet news (the English version of Yedioth) had revealed that Israel's intelligence agencies have reports about Iran's nuclear program that "conflict" with Bibi's war drive, and that these conflicting views were affecting members of that body. As of late Sept. 5, Bibi was reportedly considering polygraphing all members of his own security council at the behest of Energy and Water Resources Minister Uzi Landau, who told the press, "Until the person responsible for the leak is found, this forum cannot be convened."
Bibi's paranoia has escalated over the last week, ever since U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman, Gen. Martin Dempsey's August 30th Media Roundtable at the U.S. Embassy in London, where he openly challenged Obama's war policy, not only on Iran, but also on the question of attacking Syria over chemical weapons.
Reviewing the last week's statements and actions by U.S. military circles that oppose the British Obama war, it is obvious why Bibi is livid: he sees that Israel's establishment circles are operating in parallel with the U.S. military opposition to the outbreak of world war. The following is a brief summary of the last week's developments, which were reported as they unfolded as LPAC and EIRNS slugs.
* On Aug. 31, one day after Dempsey's London statements, Time magazine runs a major "exclusive" story that the long-delayed U.S.-Israel military exercise called "Austere Challenge," is being scaled back from 5,000 troops to "1,500" and perhaps "as few as 1,200." Israeli media reports begin screeching that this reduction shows that relations between the U.S. and Israel have seriously deteriorated (see separate slug).
* August 31-Sept. 4: Many thousands of articles have been put out repeating Gen. Dempsey's statement that he does not want to be "complicit" in a unilateral Israeli attack on Iran.
* Sept. 3: CIA Director Gen. David Petraeus reportedly arrives in Israel for secret meetings. Most of the U.S. press reports that he is going to Israel to assuage concerns about Dempsey's remarks. But, instead of a calmer climate, the Israeli media continue to explode with even more stories about U.S./Israel tensions over the British Netanyahu/Barak war against Iran.
* Sept. 4: Israeli press issue a number of serious warnings against Netanyahu. Ynet news publishes the report that the U.S. has sent an indirect message to Iran that it will not back an Israeli strike if Iran doesn't retaliate against the U.S.; and Ynet publishes the "leak" about Israeli intelligence disagreements with Bibi's Iran danger assessment. The same day, former CIA Chief Michael Hayden gives an interview to Ha'aretz in which he cautions Israel against striking Iran.
* Sept. 5: Prime Minister Netanyahu cancels his security cabinet meeting in a rage against "leaks." For the record, Haaretz reporter Amir Oren calls Netanyahu a "serial violator of Israeli gag orders," saying that Bibi's denouncing of leaks is "sadder" than Casanova denouncing adulterers.

Joe Kennedy III vs. Rachel Brown

Voters in Massachusetts' 4th Congressional district certainly got a clear picture of the only candidate anybody sane could vote for in yesterday's Milford Daily News story on their choices, Democrat and Republican, in this Thursday's primary for the seat held by Democratic Congressman Barney Frank, who is not seeking re-election.
The only "name" running in the primary, Democratic candidate, Joseph P. Kennedy III, tells people he can learn from seniors, defends "socially-liberal" gender issues, and offers small businesses for people who "aren't asking for much."
The presentation which follows is the case for Rachel Brown, "the returning challenger" to Frank, and there is nothing safe or small-minded here:
"Brown is a LaRouche Democrat whose views typically do not align with the mainstream notions of her party. She calls for the impeachment of President Obama, comparing his health care policy to that of Adolf Hilter in 1939 Germany.
"Brown wants to see reinstatement of Glass-Steagal — an act passed by Congress in 1933 that prohibited commercial banks from partaking in investment activities. The act was repealed in 1999, which, Brown believes, devastated the economy.
"'The issues facing the country now are thermonuclear war and hyperinflation, both of which are imminent if Obama is re-elected. The only reason we haven't passed Glass-Steagall, which is the only way to stop the bailouts causing hyperinflation, and the threat of war behind it, is because of resistance from British-run Obama,'" Brown said in statement.
"Brown also proposes investing in space and science research, including the North American Water and Power Alliance water project, which she said would solve the water crisis and create 6 million productive jobs, and provide full funding for NASA."
The article then plods through the other four candidates, who have nothing more of relevance to say than Joe Kennedy did.

Greece, default already

Hey Greece, some advice from Bronx NY dudes.  Default already, get rid of the Euro, and go back to the Drachma.  Face reality.

Germany's leading news weekly, Der Spiegel declared that the Greek bailout policy is a total failure and that therefore, Greece should be allowed to default and be free to have a fresh start.
Der Spiegel: "If it was ever the goal of Merkel and her allies to rescue Greece from bankruptcy, then they have failed. The only thing the drastic austerity measures have done is to exacerbate the economic crisis and push Greece's debts even higher. Nevertheless, the creditors have insisted on moving forward with their plan — even though it already became clear long ago where it was heading... The end of this approach now appears to have been reached. Neither euro-zone countries nor the IMF can provide Greece with more aid without sacrificing their own credibility. Given these circumstances, there is only one option left: Greece must go broke."
The magazine writes that European leaders continue to play for time, but, "the new permanent bailout fund, the European Stability Mechanism (ESM), which is supposed to cushion the economic impacts of a Greek bankruptcy, has yet to be in force," implying that it may never.
While a Greek bankruptcy could cost Germany 80 billion euros, writes Spiegel, "Lest this figure climb any higher, the right thing to do would be to finally make that one fateful step. No matter how unpredictable the consequences of a Greek bankruptcy might be, it appears to offer the only chance to resolve the messy situation. In this way, Greece would be free of its debts and would have a chance to make a fresh start — either as part of the euro zone or not. And the creditors in Berlin and Brussels could finally free themselves from the spiral of threats and rescue actions that they have gotten themselves into."

We Want More Curiosity

More Mars, more Curiosity rovers, more fun for the future, Bronx dudes, right?

More than 30,000 small, leading-edge companies — the drivers of innovation in the real economy — contributed critical technology and components to the 1-ton Curiosity rover. Aviation Week today lists a sampling of these, spread throughout the country, which are undoubtedly as proud of their contribution to this triumph as the controllers at JPL. As Aviation Week notes, public recognition most often goes to the big companies that are the prime contractors for these projects, but tens of thousands of innovators actually make them possible.
* Adcole Corp, in Marlborough, MA, supplied Sun sensor assemblies MSL used during its cruise to Mars
* Fiber Materials Inc. in Biddeford, Maine, manufactured the heat sheild materials that protected Curiosity during descent
* Pioneer Aerospace in South Windsor, CT, built the parachute
* Tapemation, in Calif., made Curiosity's wheels
* Litespeed Titanium, in Chattanooga, produced the tubing for its suspension system
* Communications systems were developed with L-3 Cincinnati Electronics of Mason, OH
Other contributors include
* Aeroflex Inc., Plainview, New York
* Emcore Corp., Albuquerque
* Ocean Optics, Dunedin, FL
All of these innovative companies tackled engineering challenges, presented by a mission that was made up of mostly "firsts."

Curiosity about Mars

Kesha Rogers is a member of the LaRouche national candidates slate. She won the Democratic primaries in both 2010 and 2012 in the 22nd District of Texas on the slogan "Save NASA, Impeach Obama". Upon the success of Curiosity's landing on Mars, she issued the following statement:
The successful landing of the Mars "Curiosity" Rover on Monday August 6th represents a turning point for mankind, as we have once again established our presence in space. The success of this landing lies not in the mere risk and challenges that were overcome, be they significant as they are, but in the crushing blow that this victory has dealt to a shrinking number of desperate fools still clinging to the coattails of Obama's environmentalist, anti-science, anti-technology, thermonuclear war-driven puppet presidency.
The success of Curiosity's arrival on the surface of Mars expresses nothing less than a significant step upwards in the evolution of our species, and in our species' understanding of its own creative nature to master mankind's power in our solar system. This great achievement gives voice to the fundamental importance of organizing our economy from the standpoint of the future scientific advancements we wish to see, and demonstrates Man's presence in space, which is so vital to our species' survival today, directly connected to expanding this type of visionary thinking.
The world is currently gripped by a total collapse in physical economic conditions: destruction of farmland by drought and fire, homelessness, joblessness, and bankruptcy. It is only by increasing our understanding of the universe we inhabit that we will muster the optimism and know-how to halt a hyperinflationary blowout of the trans-Atlantic economies, and the threat of war that grips the planet. The surge of optimism the Curiosity landing unleashed, is the most dangerous weapon patriots can wield against the tyrant Obama and wannabe Romney.
This successful mission has now provided us with the foothold to establish a system of planetary defense. Many more rovers will need to be suspended onto Mars, from which a control system will be established in the first steps for a "Strategic Defense of the Earth" from extreme space weather and asteroid impacts. This mission will help to answer very vital questions that will come up in considering the defense of earth, and establishes a different conception of the organization of the solar system: one with Man the Explorer as the willfully creative species with the power to overcome all challenges, planetary and even galactic ones. We may come to answer such questions as: how planets may be engineered to become habitable to human life, how the human species may survive in this galaxy on the timescale of billions of years, and how to bring into existence an age of reason and discovery among nations and cultures. These questions and more are crucial to securing our species' existence as a space-faring civilization.
In my campaign, along with my the campaigns of my colleagues on the national slate of LaRouche candidates, I have led the call for the rebirth of a Mars colonization policy, which is essential for establishing a commitment to a "Stategic Defense of Earth" policy. Once the first steps of our national recovery program are in place, namely a return to Glass-Steagall and national banking, we will find that achievements such as Curiosity will be much more common -- --- though no less awe-inspiring -- in their occurrence.

Mars, Better than Ever

The first flow of data and even the low-resolution images that have come back to Earth in the first 36 hours from the Mars Science Laboratory mission, have vindicated the daring approach of the scientists and engineers who have worked on the mission for a decade: only something on the frontier of technology can push forward the frontier of knowledge. Science: One. Obama: zero.
The never-before-attempted complex of techniques for gently landing the one-ton laboratory, Curiosity, on the surface of Mars all performed perfectly. We know this because, for the first time, the spacecraft sent simple "beeps" back to Earth, to indicate the basic parameters of its entry, descent through the atmosphere, and landing on Mars. Because previous Mars-bound spacecraft did not have such a capability, it was not possible to definitely determine the causes of those that failed. This was only now possible because NASA has the communications infrastructure in place — two long-lived spacecraft orbiting Mars - -able to relay signals from the spacecraft on its way down, and when it landed, on the surface.
NASA scientists report that Curiosity is exactly where they wanted it to be, close, but not too close, to Mt. Sharp, at the center of Gale Crater. They were able, for the first time, to carry out a pinpoint landing, thanks to a series of maneuvers, carried out automatically by the spacecraft. These included the first guided flight of a craft through Mars's atmosphere, using rocket engines, rather than a ballistic trajectory of simply falling through the sky. Through a series of banks and rolls, based on Apollo's experience of coming back through the Earth's atmosphere, and similar "S-curves" to reduce speed carried out for 30 years by the Space Shuttle, Mars Science Lab controlled its speed and direction during descent, rather than just being in free-fall.
Engineers were fearful that rocket engines large enough to slow the heavy craft to gently land on the surface would kick up too much dust, which would harm Curiosity's scientific instruments. So, for the first time, a Sky Crane was used, which lowered the laboratory on 25-foot-long nylon cables slowly down to rest. The Mars Science Lab was the first test of the kinds of techniques that could be used to gently land a heavy, manned spacecraft on Mars.
For the next few days, engineers and scientists will check out Curiosity's suite of instruments, collecting data as they do so. At a briefing today, outlining the activities for the rover over the next Mars day, Malin Space Sciences engineer Ken Edgett, who worked on Curiosity's suite of cameras, said he has waited for these images for nearly a decade.

Sexy Geithner, You Broke the Rules

Hey Bronx dudes, Timmy Geithner ain't sexy, but he broke the rules, like Sexy Sadie.

He came along to torture everyone.
Timmy Geither, ohhoh, what have you done.
(Timmy Geither as Sexy Sadie, must be a , Beatles spoof)

E-mails released by the Bank of England confirm that the Bank and the NY Fed—then headed by Tim Geithner—were very much involved in the cosmetic revision of the LIBOR rules enacted by the British Bankers Association in December, 2008. So much so, in fact, that they ordered that their fingerprints be erased before publication!
Referring to the BBA's proposal on July 2, 2008, King states: "I am broadly content with the approach described here." He asked to be kept informed of future discussion on the subject. This statement was hand-written on the a copy of the BBA proposal dated June 26, 2008.
A message on June 4, 2008, by Michael Cross, private secretary to Mervyn King, states: "I spoke to Bill Dudley of the Fed this afternoon. They are broadly content with the draft in that it addresses the specific points made in President Geithner's memo." In the same memo, Cross notes that "we might want to have direct and indirect references to the Bank (and the Fed) removed" from the BBA proposal. In an e-mail later that day, Cross says that King "agrees the BoE references should be removed, and replaced with 'all interested parties.' In an e-mail two days later to the BBA, Cross states: "Thank you also for removing the references to the Bank of England," and suggests two minor changes to the wording of the proposal to further distance the central banks.
These e-mails clearly show the collusion between the Bank of England and Tim Geithner's New York Fed, on the LIBOR scam. The language is politically correct, but their actions give them away. The deed's the thing that catches this King, and Geithner as well.
Elements of this story were reported by the Independent July 21 ("Bank of England and U.S. regulators approved inadequate Libor rules") and the Guardian ("Libor-fixing problems known at height of financial crisis").

WHATUP, EVERYBODY???? Hope this finds you all well, just poppin' thru to get you up to date as to all things Rock WILK and BROKE WIDE OPEN.

As you know, October of 2012 has been dubbed "Rocktober", and the 6th of that month is opening night, the real New York City debut of BROKE WIDE OPEN, at The 45th Street Theatre, right there among all of the amazing Broadway and many Off Broadway shows, finally after 6 years the full production will be up and running and ready for all the world to share.  That night will be THE place to be in New York City, not only the opening show but also a dinner/Gala event, with a portion of the proceeds from that night supporting the Children's Aid Society Adoption and Foster Care Programs, and the food will be care of Carmines, straight out of midtown Manhattan, SPECIAL THANK YOU to Glenn Rolnick- Director of Culinary, Jeff Bank CEO and Alice Cutler, President of the Alicart Restaurant Group, the amazing people behind Carmines Restaurant- which includes the 2 locations in NYC, and the others from Washington DC to Atlantic City, NJ , to the Atlantis in The Bahamas, and a soon to be opened location in the Forum Shops in Las Vegas, also including Virgil's Barbecue in Times Square in addition to The Atlantis in The Bahamas, as well, we are so grateful to have your support in providing the food for the Opening Night Gala and fundraiser, I'm SO excited about this because not only do I get to share my story with you that night but I also get to feed you!!!!!!! What's better than that?

Also, I am proud to announce a new member of my BROKE WIDE OPEN team, do you know who Alexis Marnel is?   You might because she is involved in EVERYTHING, or at least it seems that way. Let me introduce you to her, just in case you don't, she is the newest member of the BROKE WIDE OPEN family, I first learned about her as her being a social worker and community superhero, and so I reached out to her to see if she would include me in some community outreach work here in my neighborhood in Washington Heights, but then I found out that Alexis is also a producer of theater, an educator and a great artist in her own right, and so, all things considered, she is the PERFECT person to be involved with my story.  She lived as a leader in a group home for 10 years, raising the kids who came in and out of that space, being their "parent", and if you met her, you would think that she is just perfect for that role because her nurturing yet demanding spirit makes her the perfect person to replace the most important void in a childs life, and so, I am grateful to have this type of warrior on my team now, we are much better for having her on board.  Alexis has a company of her own called "Artists Collective for Social Change", she is a grant writer and teaching artist, and as I said, has extensive experience in the theater world, as high as the Broadway level, most recently involved with Godspell, and so, I am proud and grateful to introduce Alexis Marnel as the newest member of my BROKE WIDE OPEN team.

And so, I am working furiously toward Rocktober, rehearsing, revising the script a little bit, working closely with my director, Stephen Bishop Seely, working on the video and animation with Sien Ide, one of the most amazing artists known to humankind,  Anxiously awaiting the finishing touches on the magnificent 2 story canvas painting being worked on by Jason Sisino and his brother, Lee Alston, their talents almost impossible to describe, but when you see what they are contributing to the show, you won't need any words. I'm also in the studio putting a lot of new music together for the show, I'll be collaborating [OK, mostly watching] as our lighting designer, Omayra Garriga Casiano works her craft, creating this magical environment on stage through splashes, spots and shadows of light on stage, and working closely with our stage manager, Nivia Marrero Rolon, who will be the person who actually puts all of this amazing work into action behind my performance while also taking care of all of the arduous tasks that kind of make her the "captain" of what goes on once we raise the curtain.  And, of course, every time you see or hear anything about BROKE WIDE OPEN, you will see the powerful logo that the great multi-disciplinary artist Mia Roman created, which has become the face of my project, I am so proud of that.

And so.. that's what's happening, without giving away EVERYTHING, there are some very exciting things going on behind the scenes at the moment, as well, but I'm going to let them emerge over time, but suffice to say, we are progressing and I am so honored to be working with all of these amazing people.  Also, I am privileged to have the talents of Angela Brasington and Chad Copeland, clothing desingers who are creating BROKE WIDE OPEN t shirts and hoody's, and you KNOW that they will be all cutting edge/trendy/funky/raw/HOTNESS, they are coming soon, and I'll tell you more about Angela and Chad in future newsletters.

OK, that's enough for today, but allow me to add some business to this newsletter, as always, my 500 NAMES fundraiser [540 STRONG now] is ongoing, you can always donate if you are so inclined at that page at the BROKE WIDE OPEN website, [where you can also get opening night tickets right on the homepage] and there is also a Kickstarter campaign running live in this exact moment, if you are interested in helping us along with a contribution, [and get some great goodies!!!] you can do that here...
BROKE WIDE OPEN Kickstarter campaign
And, last, but not least, you can get tickets to any of the almost 45 performances now, in advance, at the BROKE WIDE OPEN Brown Paper Tickets site.

OH, and I"m also so proud to say, that we have had a great response to our sponsorship program, putting kids from the area in the seats in October who could never get to the theater on their own, these generous sponsors are buying tickets for high school and college kids, kids living in group homes, foster kids, kids in parole programs, I'm so excited to meet all of there young minds, hearts and souls and ready to make their heads explode with some inspiration care of BROKE WIDE OPEN.  I'll be doing Q&A's with these kids, and sponsors also get FREE tickets with their sponsorship, so you can read about that program at the NEWS page at my website, as well.

OK, I"ll stop now, hope this finds you all well, happy and healthy, around people you love and who love you, and I can't wait to see you all in October, and just a heads up, if you want to be at opening night, it's just about 70% sold out, so make a move if you want to be thrilled AND be fed!!!  Otherwise, we'll see you at one of the other shows, or who knows, you may find yourself wanting to come back multiple times, that seems to happen a lot!!!! GRATEFUL for that.
Stay well, enjoy the summer, more info in about a month and STAY CLOSE!!!!
Mad love to you all.
Peace
Rock
